Teaching 7th Graders the GPS experience

If you were able to go to Boone, Iowa with us on May 1, reflect on the experience. What went well in the process? What needs to be changed in the process of instructing students in the use of GPS? What comments did you receive about the teaching you did or the activities we planned? How did spatial thinking play a role in what you did and what the students did during the activities?

I think that overall the activity went very well and all of the 7th graders in my group told me that they enjoyed the activity very much.

There are a few things that could be easily changed. The first thing would be to have a standard set of directions for everyone so everyone learns the same thing and to have all teachers use the same picture to teach the kids. The kids had to think spatially when hiding their pens and especially when writing their name because they had to know where they had already walked when spelling their name.

overall the process was quite fun and i enjoyed it. i believe that the younger auduince (7th graders) also enjoyed it and learned about it quickly and efficiently. however i believe that the acitivites could be a slightly more challenging

I think that the activity went great overall. I think the 7th graders really enjoyed it and got to know how to work the GPS fast. My group said that they had fun. I think that they used spatial thinking when hiding their pens.

I think that the activity went well. I think the 7th graders enjoyed the activity and learned a lot about GPS in the process. I agree that there should have been a standard set of directions so that all of the students would have been told the same thing. I think that the kids used spatial thinking even if they did not realize it.

I thought the activity went well. The 7th graders understood the how the GPS worked and were able to understand it uses. They understood how to find and mark waypoints and they enjoyed the activity.

I think that the activity went really well. The 7th graders seemed to have fun choosing a spot to hide the pens. It seemed like they learned how to use the GPS very easily. One of the 7th graders even lead my group to where the pens were with the gps. I think that they learned a lot, mostly about GPS.

over all i think that the activities done with the 7th graders went well. i think both grade levels learned a lot. the seventh graders said that they enjoyed the activity and it was fun to learn about GPS and it's capabilities. i learned that teaching isn't nearly as easy as it seems.
